When Is a Dental Crown Recommended?

A crown may be recommended when a tooth needs more support than a filling can provide, such as after significant breakage or decay. The remaining tooth structure guides the decision.

    Detailed Answer

Based on Dr. Bashi’s video, with additional information for clarity and context.

A crown may restore a tooth that is substantially broken, decayed, or weakened. The dentist removes decay and prepares the remaining healthy tooth to support the restoration. When a tooth is missing, a crown can form part of an implant restoration, but it cannot replace the missing tooth's support by itself.

Crowns are an excellent solution to restore the appearance and functionality of a damaged tooth. Once a crown is placed over the tooth, it conceals any broken or decayed areas, making the tooth look and function like a brand new one. Crowns are durable and can last for many years with proper care.

To determine if crowns are the right option for you and to explore your specific treatment plan, I recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation and scan. During this consultation, we can discuss your individual needs and go over all the available options, helping you make an informed decision about your dental care.
